Norwich 2 – 1 Aston Villa: The Vital Statistics

Norwich made two changes for the side to face Aston Villa with Emi Buendia and Tom Trybull replacing Onel Hernandez and Alex Tettey.

Hernandez made the bench but Alex Tettey was rested after his wife gave birth on the eve of the game, not to mention that he’s made some big exertions of late.

Just like on Saturday, the Canaries went a goal down and then had to come back to win, something they did in style.

James Chester had given the visitors the lead with a header from an early corner, only for City to restore parity with a headed goal of their own from a corner on 54 minutes, courtesy of Jordan Rhodes.

City always looked the more likely to score again, although Jack Grealish’s runs between the lines were a constant threat, drawing what seemed like foul after foul in dangerous positions.

City stood up to all that though and scored the winner on 73 minutes after yet another slick move. Is there a slicker ball playing team than Norwich in the Championship?

The ball was moved out to the left, where the tireless Marco Stiepermann fired in a low cross. It was met by Rhodes again with a clever shot that saw Nyland able to only stand still and watch.

That was Rhodes’ 7th goal in Canary colours and proved to be the winner, carrying Norwich to just 2 points off top spot before Leeds play tonight.

My man of the match, like the Sponsors, was Mo Leitner who bossed the midfield with pass after pass. I think I saw him give the ball away once.

Starting to believe? On this evidence, I’m with you.
