Norwich Winger On Verge Of Big Money Move To Cardiff City

|

Josh Murphy is believed to be on the verge of a £10m+ move to Cardiff City reports the  Pink ‘UN

Murphy was the subject of speculation over the weekend linking him to Brighton, Fulham and Middlesbrough. There was no mention of Cardiff anywhere but Michael Bailey, who is rarely wrong on these matters, has published the story this morning.

Michael is reporting that according to his sources, Murphy was in Cardiff overnight, discussing a potential move.

Murphy scored 11 goals last season and provided 6 assists for his teammates. He also scored the Canaries’ goal of the season in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Carrow Road.

As I wrote last week, Norwich are in a financial black hole with regards to a £20m deficit, now that the Premier League parachute payments have finished. Selling James Maddison would cover that plus the sell on that would be due to Coventry but not leave a lot more.

Thus, the selling of another prized asset, such as Murphy, Timm Klose or Nelson Oliveira would help free up valuable funds for the continued revamp of the first team squad. If Oliveira or Klose were to be sold, their large salaries would also be a welcome loss to the wage bill.

Mind you, I doubt that Murphy is on two bob a week.

I have mixed feelings about selling Josh. He’s been with the club a long time and he is “one of our own.” However, he has sometimes struggled to meet the high levels of consistency demanded at the top levels of football, just like his brother.

On balance, I’d rather keep him but needs must, I’m afraid.
