Oliveira Omitted From Norwich City’s German Training Camp

|

Despite Daniel Farke’s assertion in this morning’s EDP that we shouldn’t read anything into the omission up to that point in pre-season matches of Nelson Oliveira, guess what?

Nelson is not on the list for the first team squad’s trip to Germany.

Here’s the squad in full:

First-team
Max Aarons
Emiliano Buendia
Todd Cantwell
Ben Godfrey
Grant Hanley
Onel Hernandez
James Husband
Timm Klose
Moritz Leitner
Jamal Lewis
Ben Marshall
Remi Matthews
Michael McGovern
Kenny McLean
Aston Oxborough
Felix Passlack
Ivo Pinto
Teemu Pukki
Sean Raggett
Jordan Rhodes
Dennis Srbeny
Marco Stiepermann
Louis Thompson
Tom Trybull
Yanic Wildschut
Christoph Zimmermann

Norwich will be playing matches over the next week against Paderborn, Union Berlin and Wolfsburg but they’ll be doing that without their temperamental Portuguese striker, Nelson Oliveira.

The official explanation is that Nelson was given an extra week off, having been on standby for the Portugal World Cup squad, although that sounds slightly odd to me. Why do you need another week off if you’re only on standby?

Russell Martin is another who has not been named on the first team squad list but the previously out of favour defender and former Club Captain has traveled and is with the U23s.

What to make of Nelson Oliveira’s omission from the tour list then?

It makes me think, and I imagine you too, that he’s not going to be a part of the squad this season. Norwich will probably be looking to sell him and I get the impression that Nelson would be happy to leave too.

No doubt the EDP boys will ask these questions of Daniel Farke in the next day or two. It’ll be interesting to hear his answers.
