Reading Boss On Links To Norwich Striker

|

Reading have been linked with Nelson Oliveira again according to reports on Saturday.

Having watched his side lose 2-1 at Derby County, Reading Manager, Jose Gomes was asked about the speculation and expressed his admiration for the out of favour Norwich striker.

“Nelson Oliveira is a good striker,” he said, as reported by football.london.

“I don’t know if he will be our player or not, I cannot say.”

“Like I have said before, it’s difficult to answer this kind of question because I don’t want to talk about players who are not ours.

“I know this player very well. In Portugal at one time everybody thought he could be our first striker in the national team.

“But this season he’s not playing, that’s all I know about the player.”

Oliveira has been linked with Reading, and Swansea for that matter, numerous times over the last couple of years.

Both clubs were previously reported to have bid for Nelson but City held on to their (at the time) prised asset. He scored 15 goals in 32 appearances in the 2016/17 season with talk of £9m and £12m bids being knocked back two summers ago with HITC Sport even going so far as to report a bid had been accepted then.

However, Nelson is still under contract at Norwich and is likely to be one of the last high earners on the pay roll. He doesn’t play, after falling out with Daniel Farke on the opening day of the 2017/18 season away at Fulham when he scored a late equaliser.

Moving him on would be good for everyone, come on Reading, you need a goal scorer.
