Report Suggests Norwich Have Paid €17m For Senegalese Striker

|

A media outlet in Turkey is reporting that Norwich City have reached an agreement to sign Galatasaray striker, Mbaye Diagne for a fee of €17m.

That fee would seem to fly in the face of everything that Stuart Webber said when he spoke after the season’s end about a City having the smallest budget in the Premier League next season.

Despite that though, Boxer Are reporting that a deal has been done between the two clubs for the transfer of Diagne.

If true, it will be a record signing for Norwich City and comes, let’s be honest, out of left field. Diagne’s name was first linked at the start of May but I’m not sure I ever took it seriously but here we are.

Diagne is a powerful player and at 27 years old is approaching his peak. He scored an amazing 20 goals in 17 appearances for Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig before moving to Galatasary only last January for a reported £13m.

He then scored 10 goals in 12 appearances at Gala before seeming to have fallen out with coach, Faith Terim, who has reportedly sanctioned the transfer.

As I say, I’m struggling to see Norwich paying this much money for one player but I’m willing to be proved wrong! Diagne’s stats are very, very impressive although obviously he is unproven in the Premier League and in England. His Wikipedia page has already been changed to show him as a Norwich City player too.

Hopefully there will be more on this, one way or the other in the coming hours and days.
