With July 1st and the official opening of the transfer window less than 24 hours away, which also means Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is almost here, I thought I’d just do a quick look round the media and papers and the stories circulating about The Canaries.

The Daily Mail reckon that city are battling it out with the usual suspects (West Ham and Swansea) for the signature of Liverpool’s England U21 International, Jonjo Shelvey.

The Mail also have us ‘fighting’ with Hull to sign Celtic’s Gary Hooper (haven’t heard his name for at least an hour).

Meanwhile, The Daily Star say that Hull have given up on trying to sign Hooper and will instead turn to, you guessed it, our own Grant Holt – because he wants to move closer to Carlisle and is available for a knockdown £2m. Very original. Various sources also say that Owen Coyle at Wigan would like the big man.

I wish I had a pound for every time I’d heard the story that Holty wants to move closer to Carlisle. Holt has been talking to Talksport and gave a very sensible phone interview at the weekend in which he talked about John Ruddy’s form attracting other teams as well as his own happiness at being at City. He was asked about his own future and that he is always linked with a move in every window. He just said that he’s learnt to brush it off and is looking forward to getting back to work on Monday. He continually referred to City as ‘We’, which I liked.

Meanwhile, the supposed Chelsea attempt to buy John Ruddy rumbles on but still with no official reports from any really reputable sources. Have they bid, will they bid again? We have no idea – Chelsea now seem to be doing a lot of their business quietly and under the radar, so who knows?

As far as Ola Toivonon goes, it seems that he has been given until Wednesday by PSV to decide if he wants to join Norwich. He should be reporting for pre-season on Monday but has been given two days extra, until Wednesday to decide his future or return to their reserves.

Also in Holland, the link to FC Twente’s Leroy Fer continues. His agent suggested that reports of a medical with City over the weekend were ‘premature’ but there does seem to be something in it.

Richard Askham, the BBC journo who first mooted the City/Fer connection on Twitter last week, as documented very quickly here by Leeboz, has also suggested that something may happen on Monday with big Leroy, who’s nickname is The Bouncer – due to his size.

Askham also tweeted last week that another City target, Nathan Redmond has his heart set on a move to Everton, this is a story that has gone cold in terms of Norwich links.

So, that’s the round up. As usual Vital Norwich will have it’s collective ears to the ground and when we know something concrete, you’ll know moments later.
