Talented Midfielder Set For Norwich Medical

Norwich City are on the brink of pulling off the signing of former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Moritz Leitner.

According to the EDP the Canaries have agreed on a fee with his current club, Augsburg and Leitner could have a medical with City as soon as Monday.

The 25-year-old midfielder is well known to Head Coach, Daniel Farke from their time together at Dortmund and it was that relationship that persuaded Leitner to join Norwich City on loan last January.

From the first moment I saw him first pass the ball, after coming on as a late substitute in the home win over Middlesbrough, I could see he was a real baller.

He was part of Dortmund’s first team squad under Jurgen Klopp and was an unused substitute in the 2013 Champions League Final for Dortmund. When Klopp left for Liverpool though, Leitner’s career stalled and he struggled for game time under Thomas Tuchel.

He was eventually sold to Lazio in the summer of 2016 but just six months later made a return to the Bundesliga with Augsburg before joining City on loan in January.

His ability with the ball, his technical ability, is not in question but there is surely a reason why he has struggled in the last few years. His backstory seems very similar to that of Tom Trybull, another talented baller, known to Farke and given an opportunity by the Canaries.

In spite of those questions, this is one signing I am very pleased about.
