Ten-man City went top of League One this afternoon with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Brentford.

Chris Martin celebrated putting pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half year contract with the only goal of the game, following some good work from the new darling of the Carrow Road faithful, Oli Johnson.

Captain Grant Holt was given a straight red card for a nasty looking challenge on Toumani Diagouraga, but despite that setback the Canaries could still have put the game out of the visitor’s reach before half-time if it wasn’t for the heroics of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

In the second half both sides created enough chances to win the game, but the closest Brentford could come was Sam Wood’s fine effort which crashed against man of the match Fraser Forster’s post.

Norwich City: Forster, R Martin (Whitbread), Drury, Doherty, Nelson, Lappin, Hoolahan (Johnson), Lappin, Smith, Russell, Martin, Holt. Subs not used: Rudd, Gill, Hughes, McNamee, McDonald.

Brentford: Szczesny, Foster, Smith, Legge, Dickson, Wood, Bean, Kev, Diagouraga (Cort), Macdonald, Weston. Subs not used: Price, Phillips, Bennett, Bostock, Strevens, Hunt.

So another home win for the Canaries, equalling a club-record going back over twenty years of ten victories in a row. Next up is a trip to Walsall on Tuesday night.
