The fantastic On The Ball podcast from The Athletic returns but sadly, this time the talk is all about relegation.
Yes, it’s been coming for a longtime, we’ve all known that but it still doesn’t make it any easier to swallow.
This week, host Michael Bailey is joined by guests Ben Mouncer and former Norwich City striker, Dean Ashton to rake over the ashes of relegation and to discuss the way forward.
There’s talk about where it all went wrong and there’s also talk about zonal marking, not so much about how bad it is (a general feeling I get from social media) but that if you don’t jump then you won’t beat any attackers in the air. Ben also points out that zonal marking is not just something that Daniel Farke plucked out of the air, an idea on a whim, so to speak, but it is a widely used tactic that works when implemented well!
