It’s been another slow news week in the world of Norwich City.
Those of us that involve ourselves in the reporting of news regarding the Canaries and general discussion of all things yellow and green have found it pretty slow going for a few weeks now.
Other than the recruitment of Lewis Grabban, which looks a very good thing and the constant reporting of Robert Snodgrass being on the verge of moving to Hull, West Ham, QPR etc etc by The Daily Mail, we’ve all been concentrating on the World Cup – and that is now effectively over if you’re an England fan.
On the plus side, I have drawn Columbia in the office sweepstake, so I have a little interest left in ‘the greatest show on earth.’
But in reality we’re back to World Canary. This week, we continue to be linked with Callum Wilson, Coventry’s prolific striker and I’m assuming that Neil Adams will want another striker, albeit Wilson is not proven at Championship level.
There have been no noises from anywhere about the departure of Ricky van Wolfswinkel and he has (I think) three years left on his contract. I would expect that his stock is still sufficiently high in Europe that he could get a loan move to get him goal scoring again. No-one in England will be after him so it’s either a loan or possibly a permanent move abroad, naturally at a loss to City, or he’s with us in The Championship.
Part of me hopes that he stays and shows us what he’s made of. It would be tremendous if he stayed and did the business, fulfilling the potential he came to Norfolk with by regularly hitting the back of the net – but although I am an optimist, I’m not confident that will happen.
Grabban is proven and looking at his stats he has improved year on year, a good sign. Likewise, Lucciano Becchio is proven and you’d think that Gray Hooper would also be a regular goal scorer, assuming he isn’t sold to QPR, Celtic etc etc.
The next few weeks will see the return of Leroy Fer from The World Cup and Wes Hoolahan from his holidays. Fer’s future seems likely to be away from Norwich but again, there is no speculation yet. Sam Allardyce has just bought a powerful midfielder, so the previous links with West Ham may now go away.
Wes is another situation that Neil Adams will have to address. He could be a big player in our new league, as he has proven before. But Adams will have to play him, that is what Wes wants. He’s not worth a fortune due to his advancing years but if Neil doesn’t fancy him then he should be allowed to leave.
This week also saw Ipswich Town hire a trailer Ad to park outside Carrow Road and advertise their new kit – quite amusing but surprising in the same breath. I can’t ever imagine David McNally authorising such a childish prank.
On the subject of new kits, a little YouTube teaser for City’s new kit has hit the internet. The release date is 26/6/14 and what I can tell you is that I confidently predict it will be yellow and green.
What will be telling is the players that will have featured in the press release pics and videos. Russell Martin is a shoe in, with his name already shown in the teaser video. Lewis Grabban is another I’d bet a fiver on to be in it.
But who else, RvW, Leroy Fer, Robert Snodgrass, Wes?
Question marks remain…
