Following on from the very welcome news that Wes Hoolahan has signed a new contract, Savvy looks at the little magician’s best moments…

The news that Wes Hoolahan last Saturday had signed a new three year contract was fantastic news for the club. Possibly the most influential player of our recent unbeaten run, Wes has played a total of 157 times for Norwich City and scored 28 goals.

Arguably if his season was not curtailed by injury in 2008/2009, we would never have been relegated to League One, such is his influence.

Vital Norwich wanted to pay homage to the legend that is Wessi but picking our top 5 Wesley Hoolahan moments?

5) Carlisle 0 Norwich 1 (10th October 2009)
In a dreadful game, Wes pounces on a defensive slip to trick the floundering defenders and beat the goalkeeper. 3 points out of nothing in a really tough game.

4) Leeds United 2 Norwich 2 (19th February 2011)
Wes, a constant menace throughout scores to put City 2-1 up at Elland Road. After a beautiful move involving most of the players on the pitch, Wes is put through by Andrew Crofts and dinks the ball over the on-running Kasper Schmeichal. Despite Eric Lihaj`s attempts to clear the ball, it creeps over the line, sending Canaries fans into raptures.

3) Norwich City 4 Sheffield United 2 (28th December 2010)
Wes comes off the bench to score two penalties and a last minute goal after being set up by Grant Holt to score his first and only hat trick for the Canaries as City win for the fourth time in five games.

2) Norwich 4 Ipswich 1 (28th November 2010)
A Simon Lappin through-ball is flicked on by Grant Holt into the path of Chris Martin, who releases Wes, who bearing down on goal looks certain to blast it, but deftly and mischievously dinks the ball over the despairing Martin Fulop to make it 4-1. Game over.

1) Norwich City 4 Leicester City 2 (28th September 2010)
A Wes double sent City into 3rd place in the Championship. Having already scored a penalty, Wes freed Adam Drury in on goal who finished well. He then topped the display with a 30-yard volley into the top corner for the 4th goal of the game. Mesmeric Wes at his best.

There have been so many other great moments, our first goal in the Premier League last season, a superb display versus Aston Villa (amongst others) in October, and scoring a screamer in our relegation season.

Wesley Hoolahan, you are truly a great Norwich City servant and we look forward to the next 3 years!
