Norwich City U23s ended up as comfortable 1-4 winners against Kings Lynn at The Walks on Wednesday night and fielded three young triallists among their numbers.

Club Brugge striker, Pierre Xavier Fonkeu, Hitchin Town centre back, Will Wright and former Liverpool midfielder, Adam Phillips all featured for the young Canaries as the Norwich recruitment team look to pick up a bargain.

Phillips was the real surprise, Fonkeu already having been linked with Norwich earlier in the month, after being released by Liverpool at the end of June.

Phillips was widely described as ‘heir apparent to Steven Gerrard’ in the Reds’ academy and ‘a superb passer who could put the ball on the sixpence from 60 yards according to Academy staff.’

Injury has been a big problem this year with hardly a ball being kicked after Phillips suffered two stress fractures to his back and then he wasn’t offered a new contract by Liverpool.

The 19 year old is obviously looking for a new club and sounds as though he has bags of ability and potential.

In terms of the game, Lynn went 1-0 up after just 5 minutes beforeTony Andreu (Yes, he’s alive) quickly equalised. Michele Efete then scored with Todd Cantwell getting a third before halftime.

In the second half, Andreu bagged a second just to give Daniel Farke something to think about.

Norwich: Oxborough (Hallett 46): Efete (Arrons 46), Odusina, Wright (Wallis 60), Ramsay (Catton 60); Phillips (Sambu 60); Jaiyesimi (Higgs 60), Andreu (Kamal 60), Cantwell (Hlynsson 60), Middleton (Aranisibia 60); Xavier (Fleming 60)
