Norwich City’s U23 Development side were beaten 3-2 last night at Bournemouth in a hard fought Premier League Cup game.
City battled back to equalise twice on the night with both goals coming from Tristan Abrahams. However, former City target, Benik Afobe (who cost £10m) opened the scoring on 38 minutes.
City then equalised on 72 minutes when Abrahams scored from close range, only for Afobe to quickly score again just three minutes later.
Tristan Abrahams then equalised again on 77 minutes, only for Afobe to complete his hat trick in the 89th minute. It was tough to take for the young Canaries against an experienced Bournemouth side that also included striker, Callum Wilson, another player that City once bid for, who was returning from eight months out injured.
It was a back and forth contest that could’ve gone either way, with Pierre Fonkeu having a great chance, one on one with the Bournemouth keeper that was saved on the hour mark.
Before you ask, Russell Martin wasn’t playing and Matt Gill fielded a back four that included three scholars, Max Aarons, Timi Odusina and Bilal Kamal, for what will have been an excellent experience to play against Afobe and Wilson.
