Norwich City’s on-loan striker, Ricky van Wolfswinkel has finally opened his La Liga goal scoring account for loan club Real Betis.

RvW scored the only goal of the game against Las Palmas, last night to almost certainly guarantee Betis a place in the Primera Division next season. It was his first La Liga goal since joining Betis on a season long loan last summer.

The Wolf produced a confident finish to slam the ball into the net from Dani Ceballos’ low threaded pass. Las Palmas had dominated possession in the early exchanges before losing Aythami Artiles to a red card in the 41st minute.

Las Palmas then had to surrender their possession of the ball to Betis who went all out for the win as attackers RvW, Charly Musonda and Alvaro Cejudo were introduced.

The win moves Betis up to 11th in La Liga on 41 points with four games left to play. Sporting Gijon are third from bottom with 29 points but do now have a game in hand, which is against Sevilla tonight.

Inevitably, Twitter produced the RvW fan club last night, asking why he wasn’t given a chance by Alex Neil. Simple, because he’s not good enough.

Our two most expensive players ever, RvW and Steven Naismith have produced just two Premier League goals between them for around £16.5m.

By any yardstick, that’s not much of a return, is it?
