A couple of days ago, the news broke in Sweden that Norwich City had offered cash plus ‘a player’ for Blackbutn Rovers Swedish International left back, Martin Olssen.

Ever since, the story has rumbled on with fans from both sides trying to guess who the ‘player’ is that City have supposedly offered and yesterday, Rovers’ manager, Gary Bowyer denied any knowledge of any offer for Olsson.

This morning though, the Daily Mail have revealed that they reckon the ‘player’ in question is out of favour striker, James Vaughan.

Vaughan had a positive experience when on a season long loan at Huddersfield last season when despite the relegation batttle, he managed 14 goals.

However, the fact that he was allowed on loan in the first place suggested that Chris Hughton didn’t fancy him much and it looks like his days as a Norwich City player could be numbered.

But would Rovers be interested in Vaughany?

A look at their squad suggests to me that they might.

Obviously everyone knows about Jordan Rhodes and he is their number one striker.
But other than him they have Leon Best – a hard worker but not exactly prolific, Nuno Gomes who is 109 years old (sorry, I meant 36), David Goodwillie who is linked with everyone in Scotland as well as Blackpool and finally, Jordan Slew – a young prospect.

So it might just be that Rovers would be interested in our injury prone forward. Whether he would want the move is another matter but he was happy to go to Huddersfield, so it looks to me as though James just wants to play football and you can’t knock that!

It hasn’t worked out for Vaughan at City and if I’m honest, I think that the time and his chance have gone, blighted by injury. I might be wrong but when we are now spending £8.5m on a striker, the lad might be better off taking a step down to play and score regularly and re-ignite a promising career.

I also hear though that Crystal Palace are interested, so perhaps James will have other irons in the fire…
