Vital Norwich are teaming up with Forces2Canaries, the official Norwich City Supporters Group for current and ex-members of the Armed Forces and their dependants.

The group was formed in 2003 and is focused on promoting and supporting the Canaries, and whilst drawing its membership from personnel that have a link with the Armed Forces is also able to provide its members with an ‘esprit de corps’ amongst its member base.

The Supporters Group currently has approximately 50 members, which are taken from as diverse a cross section of life as can be imagined. From an Aircraft Technician in the Royal Navy, a Forensics Officer in the Royal Air Force to an ex-Crew Chief with the V Force in the Royal Air Force and ex-Service Policeman in the Royal Navy. Members have recently conducted tours of Afghanistan, Iraq, the Falkland Islands and North America.

Events that the Group have taken part in include tours of Carrow Road and Colney, presenting their Player of the Season Award at Carrow Road, and organising End of Season and Christmas Socials.

The Group has signed an Official Code of Conduct with Norwich City Football Club, and is part of the Canaries Worldwide Supporters Group and takes part in the Annual Canaries Worldwide Weekend, which includes events such as a Flag Parade, Social Evening and Football Tournament.

Due to the success of the Group, a Committee is in place to run the formalities of the Supporters Group which meets on a regular basis to discuss new events and ideas for the Group. Membership to the Group is free, and members are also able to purchase Forces2Canaries merchandise including polo shirts, cufflinks and mugs.

Since its formation the Supporters Group have undertaken an Annual Sponsored Event which is now in its third year, and takes the form of a Sponsored Walk visiting all 26 venues as depicted on a revised Norwich Monopoly Board.

In the past the Supporters Group have raised monies for the Bryan Gunn Leukemia Appeal and The Help for Heroes Charity, and in 2009 will be looking to raise monies for The Royal British Legion – Poppy Appeal.

Adam Drury is serving as Patron for the group, a decision said to have been made easy with the defender’s professionalism and determination personifying the character of those that are serving and have served with the Armed Forces.

Relatives of those that have served in Her Majesty’s Forces are also welcome, so if you are interested in joining the group visit www.forces2canaries.co.uk. And if you are a F2C member why not join Vital Norwich whilst you are here?

Vital Norwich will now host an F2C article publishing area, giving the group an extended platform to promote their planned activities and meet-ups. You can access the area via the ‘Club Menu’ at the top of the homepage and forum area and selecting ‘Forces2Canaries’ from the drop-down list.

Welcome aboard ladies and gents!
