Wes Hoolahan is better than Alexis Sanchez but you knew that already, didn`t you?
The Irish wizard is currently playing some of his best football and that`s saying something. Despite being 33 now, he`s showing no sign of slowing up ahead of Euro 2016 in the summer.
Huw Davies, of Four Four Two magazine has just published a very interesting statistical piece in which he explains by the medium of science, well, statistics anyway, that Wes Hoolahan is genuinely a very effective Premier league player.
Goals win games, obviously, so Huw has looked at which Premier league players contribute to goals (either scoring them or assisting them) most often. In other words, who averages the fewest minutes to score a goal or assist one?
The top performer is Leicester`s Riyad Mahrez who has 14 goals and 10 assists, which on average come along once every 85 minutes. The only other player who is contributing at that rate is Sergio Aguero (89 mins). Aguero has played 30% less due to injury than Mahrez though and this season he has 14 goals but only 2 assists. Mahrez cost £400k last year, I wonder what he`s worth now!?
So what about Wessi? Well, he hasn`t played every game for Norwich but he has racked up 11 goals/assists at a ratio of 134 minutes per goal/assist (MpGA). His superb ratio matches many pundits` player of the season so far, Dimitri Payet. Even discounting the penalty he scored against Liverpool, Hoolahan is, on average, a more efficient performer going forwards than Philippe Coutinho, Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling, Theo Walcott, Pedro, Oscar and Alexis Sanchez, who surprisingly has a MpGA ratio of 200.
So there you have it, absolute proof that Wes Hoolahan is better than Alexis Sanchez.
Thank you, Huw Davies.
