Yanic Wildschut is trying to force a transfer away from Wigan as the transfer window enters its final day by handing in a transfer request report Sky Sports

Both Norwich and Derby are reported to have tabled bids for the Dutch winger but so far, Wigan have held firm, prompting Latics Chairman, David Sharpe to issue a statement:

‘We made a significant commitment in signing Yanic this time last year and he has clearly thrived at our club and we feel this action from him now is inappropriate and very disappointing at such a crucial point of the season,’ Sharpe told the club’s official website.

‘This is not the way to repay the faith we have shown in him. I’ve always had a good relationship with Yanic and I feel he has let the club, his team mates and our supporters down by taking this action.

‘Yanic is a very important player to us and we do not have a desire to sell our best players.

‘That said, every player has a value and we will not be put under pressure to sell a player for less than our valuation.’

Wildschut has 14 goals in 65 appearances since joining from Middlesbrough this time last year and you can understand their reluctance to let him go. As I wrote yesterday, it’s always tough when a player from your club is targeted by ‘bigger’ and wealthier clubs than your own but that’s life and there is no loyalty in football – only from the fans.

Today could be interesting.
