Wycombe 3 – 4 Norwich: The Vital Statistics

Norwich City finally hauled themselves over the line and into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a nervy 4-3 win over Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Tuesday evening.

Daniel Farke made 9 changes to the side that beat QPR on Saturday for his side’s third away game in six days. In came McGovern, Passlack, Godfrey, Pinto, Trybull, Thompson, Srbeny, Vrancic and Jordan Rhodes.

It was Rhodes that got things off to a flyer as he scored twice in two minutes to put City 2-0 ahead on 14 minutes. The second goal was a cracker from the edge of the area into the top corner too.

Wycombe got one back before Super Tom Trybull scored a third with a header from a corner to give City a 3-1 lead at the break. The second half saw Rhodes get his hat trick and the game looked effectively over at 4-1.

However, Wycombe got back into it via a Saunders penalty, conceded by Godfrey, that looked a little harsh at first sight. Another Wycombe goal on 75 minutes meant it was a very nervy ending but the late introductions of Timm Klose and Marco Stiepermann, coupled with some excellent late saves from Michael McGovern, helped steady the ship and see the game out.

Phew!

City roll on with their fourth win in a row and an unbeaten run that now stands at five games. They’ll also be in the hat for the next round. It’s never dull, is it?!
