Chris Hughton is reported to be considering a move for Anderlecht defender, Cheikhou Kouyate, according to Calcio Mercato.

The 23 year old 6`4″ defender is in the final year of his contract at the Belgian club and it is being reported that a 9m euro bid is being prepared by City.

Kouyaté made his professional debut for FC Brussels in 2007, and made 10 appearances before leaving the club for rivals Anderlecht due to three months` worth of unpaid wages.

He has since made 111 appearances for his current club, scoring three times. He did spent a spell on loan at K.V. Kortrijk for the majority of the 2008-09 season, where he made 26 appearances, also scoring three goals . He has also played for his country on five occasions.

Kouyate`s Wikipedia page is a little sparse, and I know literally nothing about him, but as ever, I figured that you guys would like to know about it.

Perhaps this is a move in response to Toby Alderweireld rejecting the chance to join City, although according to his father, the move may not be dead yet as he told the Antwerp Gazette City are more “in the waiting room”.

“We think it`s too early now to go into an offer,” he said.
“The transfer window lasts six weeks. We have not rejected the offer, but is set to ‘on hold`.”

In other news, the Italian media are reporting that City will go back to Juventus with an improved offer for Fabio Quagliarella after failing with an initial 10m euro bid.

However, reports suggest that the deal may depend on whether or not the player fancies a move to Norwich as he is not against a switch to the Premier League.
