He’s only been here since January and he’s only played ten times for Norwich City but it’s fair to say that Mitchell Dijks has made quite an impression on the Canary faithful.

His uncompromising, physical style has won the Dutchman a big following and who can forget Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie, literally bouncing off Mitchell as he made a marauding left wing run in the 2-2 draw at Carrow Road.

I suspect that most of us fear the worst when his loan comes to an end and that he won’t be joining the Canaries on a full time basis. It seemed that promotion to the Premier League might have been needed to make that happen but Dijks has given Norwich fans hope with the news that his agent has a meeting with Stuart Webber next week.

‘Next week my agent has an appointment for a meeting with Stuart (Webber) and we shall see’ Dijks said when he spoke to David Freezer of the EDP

Freezer spoke to the City left back when he made a half term appearance with Matt Jarvis at the Canary Store in the Castle Mall on Tuesday.

A complete overhaul of the Norwich defence is required in the summer and Dijks would be an impressive first addition, if the player can be persuaded. A deal, believed to be for ?4m, has already been agreed with the player’s parent club, Ajax, so it seems the decision will come down to Dijks himself.

No doubt he will want to know more about the new Head Coach (don’t we all) and have some reassurance about the club’s future ambitions (don’t we all).

I don’t know about you but I’ll be keeping everything crossed that Webber can pull off a coup. If a Premier League club come in for him, we’ve most likely had it. But ‘if’ is a big word…
