Norwich City have completed the £3.5m transfer of West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw, just hours before the transfer window was due to close, smashing their previous transfer record fee of £3m which they paid for the now departed Dean Ashton.

The 24 year old Welsh international striker arrives on a three and a half year deal and looks set to go straight into the starting line-up for this weekends big Derby clash with rivals Ipswich Town on Sunday.

The transfer is to be paid in to lumps, with £2.75m being upfront and a further £750,000 to be paid once certain performance related criteria has been met.

This means that The Baggies have recouped the whole of the fee they paid Cardiff City less than two years ago, not a bad deal for a player that has put in two transfer requests and made only one appearance this season, and that was coming off the bench in his clubs 4-0 hammering of Everton back in November.

However, Earnie does have the strike calibre we are looking for, scoring 14 goals last term, with 11 of them coming in the top flight.

In his short stay with ?Brom he played 50 times scoring 17 goals, including a 16 minute hat-trick away at Charlton.

Before departing for top flight football Earnshaw netted 52 goals in two seasons at this level.
