Simon Charlton believes Bryan Gunn should be given the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

The former Canaries utility player joined the club for the Premiership season of 2004/2005, and after being released at the end of the following campaign finished off his playing career with Oldham Athletic.

He is currently cutting his managerial teeth with Mildenhall Town of the Ridgeons Premier League, and told the Eastern Daily Press that he thinks Gunn is the man to turn the club’s fortunes around.

‘I don’t see at this moment why Gunny can’t do the job,’ he said. ‘He has publicly stated he wants it and that he has now got a taste for it and maybe it would stop any more upheaval at the club. The good thing is because of his previous scouting role he will already know who he wants to bring in and who could do a job.

‘I think he had 19-odd games in charge to figure out if there is any dead wood in the squad which he doesn’t want – which I think there will be. He’s also got the likes of Butters and Crooky alongside him to do the majority of the coaching so Bryan can manage. I believe he can get the club in a strong position next year.’
