Howson A Middlesbrough Target?

Jonny Howson is a top target for Middlesbrough this summer, according to the Teeside Gazette

The Gazette say that the 29 year old Norwich midfielder is a player long admired by new ‘Boro manager, Garry Monk.

Monk has trimmed his squad a little with Julien de Sart having left, Antonio Barrgan set for a move to Real Betis and Stewart Downing told he is free to find himself a new club.

All the media talk in recent weeks has been that Norwich would accept around £5m for Howson, although with two years left on his contract I`d value him a fair bit higher than that, personally.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Howson for a long time now but might struggle to compete with the financial clout of Middlesbrough if it came down to it. Whether or not Howson is sold or even actually for sale this summer is not known. Stuart Webber`s now famous “every player has his price” quote is bandied around in all these types of reports, whoever is being talked about but it has to suit all parties.

I could understand letting Howson leave for the Premier League, to say, a club like Burnley, Watford or West Brom, even Brighton but I`m not sure I`d be happy to see him sold to a promotion contender.

That wouldn`t sit well at all.

At the moment it`s all paper talk, so as ever, we will have to wait and see.
