Nelson Oliveira is back in the Norwich City squad for Saturday`s game at Hull City, Daniel Farke announced at his usual pre-match press conference.
The fiery Portuguese striker wasn`t involved in Tuesday`s match day squad for the visit of Nottingham Forest with his omission being down to issues in training.
Speaking after the Forest game, Farke said that much depended on the way that Oliveira responded, although Farke added that Nelson still isn`t doing enough in training, which sounds like he may not start but he will travel.
Christoph Zimmermann is out with illness and there is a suspicion that James Maddison may have caught the same bug. He apparently has a cough but no temperature yet – he`s going to get his own room at the hotel, just in case.
In positive news for Matt Jarvis, he will return to full training in five day`s time, having lasted just 11 minutes of his U23 comeback game against Fulham on Wednesday. He was subbed early after feeling his groin, which Farke insisted was “normal after upping his load.” It seems his ankle is fine.
Marco Stiepermann should return after the international break, having had a recent hernia operation and Ivo Pinto is close to a start with seemingly, only Harrison Reed`s good form preventing that.
Daniel Farke knows, like the rest of us, that Norwich City need to score more goals and he spoke about improving the scoring record. If Nelson doesn`t start then the weight of expectation will fall on the shoulders of Dennis Srbeny or possibly Marley Watkins, who was the player on press duty on Friday.
Watkins has struggled all season and not yet scored a league goal, while Srbeny didn`t impress against Forest but I`m hoping that it`s still early and he just needs a bit more time to bed in and get up to speed.
Hull are in a lot of trouble, having hovered around the relegation zone for most of the season and currently sit just three points above it. Abel Hernandez scored on his return from injury in the 1-2 defeat to Millwall and could start against Norwich. Ondrej Mazuch, Markus Henriksen and Harry Wilson are all back fit again and could well all start as Nigel Adkins looks to freshen up a Tigers side, none of whom got a lot of credit from the Millwall game.
The next two games against Hull and Barnsley (Tuesday) will probably be a bit tough as both teams fight for their Championship lives with Norwich looking to avoid a sixth draw in a row.
The outcome is hard to predict and you would assume it will be closely fought with the Canaries probably having 70% possession stats 🙂
