Ipswich Want Lafferty

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy is very interested in signing former Norwich City striker, Kyle Lafferty reports the Daily Mail

In what would be a rather shocking move, McCarthy appears keen to link Lafferty with his new £1m signing from Glasgow Rangers, Joe Garner.

The Tractor Boys badly missed a target man when Daryl Murphy left Portman Road last summer but a move for Lafferty would be audacious and controversial, to say the least.

Lafferty would fit McCarthy’s long ball game to a tee and would be a handful for most Championship defences. However, should the move happen, it would start off with both McCarthy and Lafferty under pressure.

McCarthy would be blamed for bringing in a reject from their bitter rivals Norwich City and the same goes for the player. If he failed to hit the ground running, the grief he would experience from the blues’ fans could turn the move into a nightmare.

One final note is that Lafferty was reported to be earning over £30k per week at Carrow Road and he would have to take a substantial drop to move to Ipswich.

Can the blues afford that sort of salary? I doubt it very much. So would Kyle be prepared to drop to £20k or lower? I also doubt that very much.

I’m not really expecting this to happen, rather that Kyle will end up in Azerbaijan or somewhere similar, where there’s more money on offer.
