Twitter is awash with rumours tonight that the FC Twente starlet might be ready to sign on the dotted line for the mighty Yellows within a week. The rumours and resultant web stories all seem to stem from the 140 tweet posted by BBC Journo, Richard Askam, on the popular social media site.
Askam said: “Hear Norwich are closing in on #FCTwente’s Leroy Fer who could sign as early as next week unless other clubs make a move #efc #ncfc”
Fer, 21, who plays as a central midfielder for club and country has weighed in with 21 goals in his last two seasons with the Dutch side and has been the subject of interest from the usual suspects, Everton, Newcastle et al.
Indeed Fer was the subject of an £8.6m bid from the Toffees in the January transfer window with medical reasons (knee) behind the collapse of the deal.
Fer has indicated he is keen for a move to the Premiership and has suggested that Everton are still interested and I wonder if the ‘leaking’ of interest from other clubs is just a mechanism to spur the Everton board into action.
Only time will tell.
