With a general feeling of “meh” about the place of late, we haven`t had much to lift the collective spirits at Carrow Road.

However, with Alex Pritchard and Alex Tettey both on the mend there`s further good news in the shape of young Jamal Lewis, who played 60 minutes for the U23s in their 0-1 win over Bury on Monday.

You will remember that Lewis was a big part of pre-season and was a bit of a surprise package at left back. At only 18, he flew under the radar but impressed Daniel Farke and became a regular in pre-season until a cruel knee injury in training denied him the chance to challenge for a starting berth.

The lad has missed four months while we have struggled at left back. James Husband was bought as a specialist left back and Marco Stiepermann came in as a midfielder who can play at left back if required. Due to some indifferent form from Husband and a few injuries, Marco has played there more often than not.

It`s not fair to place a heavy weight of expectation on Jamal`s shoulders but along with the return of Pritchard and Tettey, also after long periods of absence, the increase in options for Daniel Farke can only be a good thing.

I`m sure it hasn`t escaped Lewis` notice that the left back spot has been problematic and that it is still very much up for grabs.
