Neil On Watford

Norwich City manager, Alex Neil didn’t think there was much between the two teams after watching his side get (comfortably, in my opinion) beaten 2-0 by Watford at Vicarage Road.

“I don`t think it was a great game but the conditions didn`t help,” Neil told the assembled media. “To be honest there wasn`t anything in the game until we made an error at the back and it resulted in a penalty.

“Up until half time I didn`t think there was much in it, we had a bit of a lull because we had conceded a goal.

“In the second half the game was very similar. Both teams turned the ball forward a lot, I don`t think there was a great deal of football played.

“We pushed forward in the second half and Robbie Brady had two decent opportunities. The first one he has screwed wide off his left foot and then the other is a poor touch and the ball runs through to the goalkeeper.”

He added: “I felt in the vital moments of the game we didn`t do well enough. As the game wore on their strikers caused us more problems, particularly Ighalo. But other than that I don`t think Watford caused us huge problems.

Asked about the penalty incident, Neil said he thought Alex Tettey got the ball but that he wasn’t certain.

‘From my view it looked as if Alex got the ball but whether he got the man before the ball, I’m not sure.’

‘But we made our own problems’ he added. ‘If you look at Watford I don`t think they played any square balls in the first half. Every time they got it they turned the ball forward and helped it on.

“They played the conditions and that is the game management at this level that helps get results.”
