Peterborough United are back in for Cody McDonald, according to Sky Sports this morning.

Posh have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 25-year-old this summer but seemed to rule themselves out last month when chairman Darragh McAnthony complained on Twitter that his club had been priced out of a move, saying:

‘Have tried to buy CMD for 6 weeks. Norwich want over 550 grand. Dont think he has ever played for them. Good luck to them with that price.’

Something appears to have changed though as Barry Fry, always one for doing business in private and keeping his head down, told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that they are closing in on a long-term target.

‘We are after a striker who has been a long-term target of ours and we hope to have him here by Wednesday,’ he said.

‘We are also working on a loan deal for a Premier League midfielder.’

Cody Mac scored 25 goals on loan at Gillingham last season and was named the club’s Player of the Year.

He has one year left on his Carrow Road contract but wasn’t given a squad number by Paul Lambert this summer.
