Pundit praise for Martin

Martin bagged his third professional goal in the recent win over Luton Town, following up his strikes against Blackpool and Coventry City with the equalising goal at Kenilworth Road.

Being a successful goal scorer throughout his own Career, Tony Cottee was complementary of the performance put in by the 18-year-old. The former Leicester striker covered the game for Sky Sports and enjoyed his first look at City`s most recent prospect.

Cottee said: “It’s the first time I’ve seen Chris play and he certainly looks a very decent player. He led the line extremely well and looks a real prospect for the future.”

I can only echo these words. The way in which Martin has taken on the responsibility of being our only natural striker has been fantastic. Not only has he preformed admirably on each occasion he has played he`s also got some goals which have proved vital in the couple of positive results we have had recently.

Praise also has to go to Peter Grant for taking a chance on him. Under the previous regime with Nigel Worthington as manager, I don`t think Martin would have received his chance – not as soon as he has anyway. Granted, the injury situation has led to him being shoved into the deep end, but Grant has faith in him and has backed him to succeed. He hasn`t let his manager down so far and now he looks to have made the striker berth his own.

As for Cottee, he also led the line for the Canaries in a short spell some seven years ago. I think he scored against Blackpool in the cup but other than that his stay in Norfolk wasn`t too memorable. He describes Norwich as ‘a lovely place to play football`. All I can say is that hopefully this ‘lovely place` will be where Chris Martin is playing his football and scoring his goals for years to come.
