With Glenn Roeder leaving the club today, speculation is rife over who will be the next Norwich City manager.

In this first part, we take a look at half a dozen potential candidates.

Aidy Boothroyd
Age: 37
Clubs managed: Watford (2005-2008)

Boothroyd spent two years as Youth Team coach at Carrow Road, but left for a similar role with West Brom in 2003 – much to the annoyance of then-City boss Nigel Worthington.

A spell as first team coach at Leeds followed, but in March 2005 was named Watford manager, where he guided the Horns to the Premiership in his first full season in charge.

His side were relegated the following season, and Watford continued to slide ever since, culminating in his departure from Vicarage Road in November.

Has a reputation for direct football.

Mark Bowen
Age: 45
Clubs managed: None – assistant to Steve Bruce at Crystal Palace and Birmingham, and to Mark Hughes at Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City.

Former Norwich City left-back and member of the Hall of Fame. Was the early favourite to replace Nigel Worthington, but opted to stay put. Has a good reputation as a coach.

Steve Cotterill
Age: 44
Clubs managed: Sligo Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Stoke City, Burnley.

Said to be willing to walk over hot coals for the City job. Enhanced reputation a great deal whilst with Burnley. A strong outside contender.

Alan Curbishley
Age: 51
Clubs managed: Charlton Athletic and West Ham United.

Gained an excellent reputation during fifteen years at the Valley, as Charlton bounced between the Premier League and second tier of English football. A less successful spell at West Ham followed, but he resigned in September after players were reportedly sold without his consent. Thought to be a favourite of the board, but waiting for a Premier League opening.

Iain Dowie
Age: 44
Clubs managed: Oldham Athletic, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Queens Park Rangers.

Out of work since being sacked by QPR after just 15 games, the sheer number of clubs Dowie has managed in his short managerial career might be cause for concern.

Paul Ince
Age: 41
Clubs managed: Macclesfield Town, MK Dons, Blackburn Rovers.

Cut his teeth in the lower leagues with Macclesfield and the Dons before his big break came in the summer with a move to Blackburn which soon turned sour. Was originally linked with the post after Grant’s departure, but stories of old school coaching methods may have harmed his cause.
