Norwich City midfielder, Louis Thompson is out for the rest of the season having had to have surgery on an Achilles injury suffered in training this week.

Manager, Alex Neil confirmed the news at his pre-Birmingham press conference on Friday when speaking to Radio Norfolk

22yr old Thompson hasn’t played for City since November after suffering a pelvic problem, just as he’d made the breakthrough to the first team.

‘It’s devastating news for him and us and he will be going for surgery,’ Neil told BBC Radio Norfolk.

‘We are trying to promote our best youth academy players and this will certainly set him back,’ he added.

This is the latest injury to hit the Canaries’ midfield and with Youssouf Mulumbu still away with DR Congo at the ACON, Neil accepts he is very short of cover in the centre of the pitch.

‘We might need to plug a gap but certainly the first preference is to sign someone who will make us better,’ he said.

‘Youssuf is coming back in two weeks with Dorrans six weeks after that.’

Dorrans is 8 weeks away from a return?!

The season will be settled by then, best make a signing, Alex and be quick about it.
