Transfer Deadline Day – what should we expect?

Today is the last chance for clubs in the Football League to make emergency loan signings this season, so what should be expect in our neck of the woods?

Coming In

The most likely piece of action is the extension of David Mooney’s stay from Reading until the end of the season.

Two weeks ago Gunny said the club were at an advanced stage of negotiations with the Royals, telling the official website at the time:

‘Reading have high hopes for him, but his path is blocked with the likes of Kevin Doyle and Shane Long, so it’s given David an opportunity to come to us.

‘We are at an advanced stage of negotiations with Reading which hopefully enable us to extend his loan stay until the end of the season.’

Few would expect any ‘new’ signings to be made today. City boss Bryan Gunn already has more loanees in his squad than he can use, so it would be a surprise if any additional ones came in.

Going Out

If there is to be any movement it more likely therefore to be via the door marked ‘Exit!’.

Jamie Cureton, Matty Pattison and Mark Fotheringham are all seemingly completely out of the first-team picture at the moment, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see any them head out for a few weeks.

The biggest question mark is probably over who would want them, and whether or not they are a club Gunn would want to do business with.

He has already made clear that he will not loan players to any of City’s relegation rivals, which rules out a possible move to Plymouth for Pattison for starters.

If they are going to go anywhere it would most likely be to a side playing their football in League One or Scotland.

Stay tuned to Vital Norwich throughout the day, as we keep you up-to-date with all the moves that matter (should there be any of course).

It is not only transfer deadline day today of course. Today is also the last day a club can enter administration without risking the possibility of starting next season with a negative points total ala Leeds United, so it’ll be all eyes on everyone from Charlton at the bottom to Crystal Palace in twelfth.
