Alex Neil watched his side swept aside on Saturday by a dominant Manchester City team that comfortably beat the Canaries 0-3.

Talking after the game, Neil said that he is now looking ahead to Stoke and Bournemouth, two big away games for City in the next week.

‘We’ll be brushing it off. We’re disappointed we didn’t play as well as we should have, however our bread and butter is the league,’ he told Norwich City TV.

‘I told the players after the game ‘that one is done now’. We should have done better in the game but we didn’t, and now we need to focus on Wednesday and Saturday.

‘Our main priority is to stay in the Premier League and that’s always been the case. We’ve got two crucial games coming up, and we’ll have a lot of guys who are fresh.’

The City boss added: “In the first half we were disappointing. I don’t think our retention of the ball was good enough. We gave it away far too often in poor areas.

“When you give good teams the ball back, they’re going to cause you problems and that’s ultimately what happened.

“The first goal in particular we should have done a lot better with, but it starts from us having the ball and giving it away sloppily.

“They showed a bit of individual quality for their third goal, but it was another poor decision from us leading up to it.”

It’s obvious that the league is more important to Norwich than a cup run but it’s a real disappointment that we couldn’t put on more of a show than we did and at least make it a bit more difficult.

When we play them again, at Carrow Road in the league, I’d like to think we’ll be doing a lot better than this, because we are a lot better than we showed here – that’s been the story of the season though.
