The club have confirmed that an independent inquiry has been launched following the incident on Saturday which saw two supporters encroach onto the Carrow Road pitch.

43-year-old Mark Warman and Daniel Warman, 18, were questioned by police and later received a caution after appearing to throw their season tickets into the direction of City boss Bryan Gunn shortly after Colchester scored their fourth goal during Saturday’s opening day capitulation against the U’s.

The club have said as the investigation should be concluded by the end of next week, and the relevant sections of the Football League Ground Regulations centre of the use of threatening behaviour (including the use of foul or abusive language, and pitch encroachment.

A club spokesman told the official site:

‘We take the safety of our supporters and our staff very seriously at Norwich City. There will be a thorough independent inquiry into the safety measures which were in place on Saturday and the incident involving the two men who have subsequently been cautioned by police.’

The supporters could find themselves banned from Carrow Road, but many would say a bigger punishment would be to return their season tickets and force them to attend the remaining 45 games.
