Bryan Gunn was left to face the music last night after undoubtedly the worst performance by a Norwich City side in recent memory (and that’s saying something).

Speaking to reporters after yesterday’s disgraceful display, Gunn said:

‘It’s very disappointing and embarrassing that we’re starting here with a 7-1 defeat, you sit in the changing room and wonder why it got to that stage. We just didn’t apply ourselves correctly in the first 20 minutes, Colchester got on top of us and competed very well.’

If you have the stomach for it, UK viewers can watch the goals on the BBC iPlayer or via the BBC Football website, but I would say it is very obvious how we got to that stage and exactly what went wrong (but more on that separately later assuming I have calmed down enough).

‘I’m big enough to know how unhappy the fans are and it’s up to me, the coaching staff and the players to apologise and most importantly, make sure it never happens again this season,’ Gunn continued.

‘We’ve got 45 games now and we must make sure this never happens again. The build-up to the game was good, pre-season was excellent and fitness levels were right – now we have to start again.’

Let’s keep it simple Gunny – if you don’t sort them out we’ll be starting again alright. In League Two.

According to BBC Radio Norfolk commentator Chris Goreham, only Adam Drury and Grant Hold had the bottle to face reporters after the game, and several players refused requests.

After a performance like that the players should be made to personally contact each and every one of the 23,000+ City supporters who packed into Carrow Road yesterday afternoon expecting to see the rebirth of their club, begging for forgiveness.
