Daniel Farke’s Midfield Options Increase Ahead Of Wigan Test

|

Norwich City take on Wigan Athletic on Saturday at Carrow Road (3 pm) with a fairly healthy squad for Daniel Farke to choose from.

Farke spoke to the media at Colney on Friday lunchtime for his usual pre-match presser and there are no new injury concerns to worry about after the mid-week Carabao Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers, with both Alex Tettey and Todd Cantwell are available for Saturday.

One player who won’t be involved is Ben Marshall, who was out with illness for around eleven days, meaning he hasn’t played in about six or seven weeks. That will be put right this afternoon though as he is in the starting XI for the U23 side that takes on their Manchester United counterparts at Colney. Nelson Oliveira will partner Adam Idah as well.

The big news is that Onel Hernandez is back in training with Daniel Farke hoping to have the fleet-footed wide man back with the first team from Wednesday. That means he could be involved against Stoke but it will all depend on how he reacts to the normal intensity of training.

The news regarding Kenny McLean is not so good though with the Scottish international still not back in training.

I did fear that the loss of Hernandez after the Middlesbrough game would be a huge blow but as it’s turned out the squad has coped and the wins have kept on coming. While not a like for like replacement, Todd Cantwell has done very well indeed on the left of midfield. The dead leg that kept Todd out of the squad in mid-week has subsided and he’s now an important part of the matchday options for Farke.
