Have Norwich Accepted Southampton’s Maddison Offer?

|

News has surfaced overnight that Norwich have accepted a bid from Southampton for James Maddison, this is according to The Sun.

The Sun’s report exclusively reveals that the Canaries have accepted a £20m bid for Maddison from the Saints “after 48 hours of tough negotiations.”

If true, this is no surprise to anyone and if I’m honest, I’m quite relaxed about the whole affair. There is not a snowball in hell’s chance that Norwich City can keep James Maddison next season. The only thing that would’ve made that happen would have been if he suffered a more serious injury.

Thankfully he didn’t because it appears as though the City board are basing much of their plans for next season around the money to be received from Madders’ sale.

You all know his stats from last term and there was only ever going to be one winner of the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy. He was the standout player in yellow & green last season by a country mile. If the truth is told, he is too good for the Championship now and he needs to move to get regular Premier League football. He needs to move to continue developing.

A move to Southampton or Everton or Leicester, who have both been heavily linked with him, should see him afforded plenty of game time, which would not necessarily have been the case if he went to Spurs, Liverpool of another club with top-six credentials.

The only question now, is will news of this bid prompt other sides to come in with higher offers? Let’s hope so, eh?!

The next 24 hours should show whether or not this is an accurate report.
