Norwich City Confirm Striker Loan

|

Norwich City have confirmed the loan move of Josip Drmic to Croatian side, HNK Rijeka for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

There were rumours swirling on Thursday of something happening for the Swiss international striker who last appeared for the Canaries in the 2-0 home defeat against Burnley at the end of last season when he was sent off.

It’s been a difficult move for both player, club and us fans and I think it’s fair to say and one that clearly hasn’t worked out. Josip scored three goals in 24 appearances for Norwich with the most important of those being his close-range bundled equaliser against Spurs in the FA Cup – my last away game and one that if you were one of the 9,000 strong Canary army there, was a great night out.

He does have a decent strike ratio for his country and no doubt this move will be angled at getting him game time to be in contention for a spot in the Swiss national squad for the European Championships this coming summer.

Being of Croatian heritage and the fact that the transfer window there doesn’t close until until February 15th has allowed this move to happen with his new club reportedly paying a small percentage of his wages, which as he arrived on a free transfer 18 months ago are likely to be fairly considerable.

Still, it gets him playing and will put him back in the shop window for the rest of the season and maybe for the Euros. I hope it works out for him.
