Norwich Close To Midfielder Signing

|

Norwich City are close to the signing of defensive midfielder, Jacob Lunghi Sorensen according to Danish media outlet Bold and reported here by HITC Sport.

The 22-year-old, who currently plays for Esbjerg FB in Denmark, is described as “a defensive midfielder who can also play at centre-half” which would tick a few boxes for the Canaries. The recruitment team had huge success when Norwich were last in the Championship, bringing  Teemu Pukki to the club from Danish team Brondby and Emi Buendia from Getafe in Spain but by most yardsticks, they blew it for this season’s Premier League campaign.

Ibrahim Amadou was described in a similar way to Sorensen and had to fill in at centre-back for the first quarter of the season, barely playing in his preferred midfield position at all and eventually cutting short his season-long loan in January. Hopefully this lad is going to have more success.

There are a few defensive midfielders already at the club, like Louis Thompson, Tom Trybull, Alex Tettey, Charlie Gilmour and new boy Melvin Sitti, who joined up with his new team mates on 1st June but out of those, I’m not sure about Thompson’s fitness or future at the club, despite being under a long contract still.

Sitti is new and young and Gilmour spent last season on-loan in Holland with Telstar. Alex Tettey is now in his 35th year, so seems likely to be more of a back-up, although I’ve thought that before. Trybull looks set to continue in the first team squad.
