Norwich Sign Wolves Winger

|

Norwich City have announced the signing of winger, Ben Marshall from Wolves for the usual undisclosed fee. Marshall has signed a four year deal with the Canaries.

Marshall is 27 years old and started out at Manchester United aged just 7 years old. He moved to the Crewe Alexandra academy at the age of 14 and then signed for Stoke City in 2009.

A series of loan moves then followed before he joined Leicester City in 2012 for ÂŁ1m. He did reasonably well at Leicester and made 61 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 9 goals and that earned him a move to Blackburn in 2014.

He made 140 appearances for Rovers, scoring 16 goals before Paul Lambert snapped him up for Wolves in 2017 for ÂŁ1.2m. Lambert had managed Marshall as Blackburn boss in 2015/16, when he was a teammate of Grant Hanley, and knew exactly what he was getting.

Marshall is an experienced Championship campaigner although he’s struggled to make an impact at Wolves since the new owners took over and signing players from Portugal for £15m+ became the norm.

Making just 19 appearances for Wolves and scoring 2 goals, he was loaned to Millwall in January 2018 and is widely acknowledged as being a big part of the Lions’ late playoff challenge as he scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in his 16 games.

So what can we expect?

Well, he has played most of his career as a winger, he can play on either flank and although not lightning quick, he’s no slouch and he is an excellent crosser of the ball. He can also play at right back, which funnily enough is another position where we need cover.

I wonder if this is a “two in one” signing?

A mate of mine watched quite a few Millwall games last season and he reckoned that Marshall was the Lions’ standout player after his arrival in January and a big reason that they became such a force, which all sounds good to me.

Marshall would appear to be a direct replacement for Josh Murphy and he could also provide backup to Ivo Pinto. Ben would also be an excellent wing back, should Daniel Farke decide to play that way.

Welcome to Norwich, Ben.
