Watkins Leaves Norwich For Bristol City

|

Marley Watkins has left Norwich and joined Bristol City, the two clubs have announced.

Watkins was signed on a free transfer from Barnsley last summer, following a decent season at Oakwell in which he had scored 10 goals.

The deal was done and dusted last summer before Daniel Farke was announced as City boss, although on appointment, the new Head Coach offered his approval to the signing.

Watkins, 27, has signed a three year deal with Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be somewhere between £1-2m, after an offer was knocked back last January.

Marley made 27 appearances for Norwich, managing just one Carabao Cup goal against Charlton in the whole of last season.

His form at Barnsley suggested that Watkins was a decent player. Goal scoring and work rate were supposed to be his forte, although we never saw it in yellow and green.

I have no doubt that there is a player in there, somewhere but after watching him last term I cannot say I’m disappointed at this news. It’s another million quid in the bank and hopefully, that can go towards another player that can actually make a contribution.

If he was starting a game or came on as a sub, I could never say, hand on heart, “Yes, Marley will make a difference.”

Best of luck to him but this is good news for Norwich City.
