Derby Bid For Marriott And Are Norwich Really Chasing Chelsea Midfielder?

|

Norwich City are reportedly chasing Chelsea’s creative midfielder, Kasey Palmer. This is according to Sky Sports.

Palmer was on loan at Huddersfield in 2016/17, brought to the club by Stuart Webber, so it’s an easy link to connect him to Norwich. He scored 4 goals in 24 appearances as the Terriers won promotion to the Premier League.

Palmer re-joined Huddersfield again last summer on another season-long loan but that didn’t work out and it was cut short in January and the lad moved on loan to Derby County for the rest of the season. He made 16 appearances and scored 2 goals as Derby reached the playoffs.

However, I’d be surprised if this is accurate and I’ll tell you why.

After the signing of Moritz Leitner on Tuesday, Daniel Farke was quoted on Canaries.co.uk  as saying that our midfield is complete.

He said: “I think this area on the pitch is good. We have some key players from last season still here – Alex Tettey, Tom Trybull, Moritz, Mario Vrancic. And you have Kenny McLean coming in, Ben Godfrey back, so in general, we’re done in central midfield.”

When you list those players, it does seem odd that we would want another midfielder, especially ahead of signing a striker, doesn’t it?

It does to me.

We need a striker or possibly two and we need a right back, other than that, we’re looking in good shape and the rest will be down to Farke to get them scoring goals more regularly.

Talking of strikers, City have recently been linked with Jack Marriott of Peterborough United, who scored 33 goals last season.

Marriott is likely to cost around £6m, which surely puts him out of the Canaries’ reach. There is news about him today that both Derby County and Bristol City have made bids for him. The report mentioning that comes from the Bristol Post.

Derby could lose Matej Vydra to Leeds United and Bobby Reid is heavily linked with a move away from Ashton Gate to newly promoted Cardiff City.

I would say that a move for Marriott is likely to be well out of Norwich City’s reach and that we don’t need Kasey Palmer, which makes this not the most optimistic of articles – we’re always realistic though 🙂
