Are City interested in Liverpool’s Johnjo Shelvey?

Today’s Daily Mail are suggesting that City have made an enquiry about Liverpool midfielder, Johnjo Shelvey.

The England U21 International made 18 starts for the reds last season with just nine being in the premier league and a further fifteen coming from the subs bench – he scored five goals.

He was in and around the first team squad quite a lot but has failed to live up to his potential since a £1.7m move from Charlton in 2010.

It should be noted though that he is still a very young player at just 21 years old.

The Mail reckon that Liverpool want at least £5m for him which seems quite a bit to me.

Whenever I’ve seen him play he can look okay but has a propensity to miss gilt edged goal scoring chances – he missed a sitter at Carrow Road last season.

What do we reckon? For me, the jury is still out on this lad but CH hasn’t bought any duds yet, assuming this is true of course…

  • If it were near the £1.7 m, then he might be worth a punt. £5 m for someone who has failed to live up to his potential seems like wishful thinking.

We need to build a team of players who stand a good chance of realising their potential. Especially as the team has already the reputation of punching above its weight.
