McCarthy To Leave Ipswich Town

|

Mick McCarthy will leave Ipswich Town at the end of the season.

His contract expires at the end of the season and after a meeting with owner Marcus (they seek him here, they seek him there) Evans on Wednesday night, it has been decided that big Mick will leave Portman Road along with his long standing assistant Terry Connor. Both will stay in post for the remainder of the season`s matches.

In his six years at the club, McCarthy managed to save the Blues from relegation but managed a top six finish only once, in 2015 when his side were well beaten in the play-offs by arch rivals Norwich City.

Talking of which, McCarthy never managed to beat Norwich while in charge of the Tractor Boys. He came closest last month when his side took an 89th minute lead, which prompted an outpouring of emotion from Mick when he ran onto the pitch and aimed some expletives at his own fans, who had been questioning his decision making prior to the goal. He later apologised for telling them to “Fu£@ Off!”

As you will remember, Timm Klose then scored a 94th minute equaliser that dampened Mick`s spirits (Look at his face) and snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat.

Anyway, attendances have plummeted with only a tad over 13,000 watching the recent game with Bolton at Portman Road and many season ticket holders were refusing to renew until McCarthy`s fate was known.

I`m rather disappointed he`s leaving because he was helping to keep the general malaise around the place for the Blues while never having any real success on the pitch, which is perfect for a City fan 😉
