Norwich Interest In Proven Striker

|

Norwich City are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday striker, Jordan Rhodes reports the Mirror.

I’m not sure if it’s just me or not, but City seem to have been linked with Jordan Rhodes every summer for about the last five years.

He is, of course, a proven Championship goalscorer with a record of 83 in 159 appearances for Blackburn Rovers. Rovers spent £8m, when that was a lot of money for a Championship player, to buy him from Huddersfield Town, where he’d scored 73 in 124 appearances.

Last summer he joined Wednesday for £10m from Middlesbrough and now it seems, City think a deal can be done.

Make no mistake though, we won’t be spending £10m and we won’t be paying him the £40k per week that he’s reportedly on at Hillsborough.

If there’s any truth at all in this report, and there might be because it’s not the first time he’s been linked to Norwich in the last six weeks, then it’ll be at a much lower price and on vastly reduced wages.

The key here is that Wednesday need to shift some high earners due to financial fair play pressures along with the fact that Rhodes isn’t getting a lot of game time.

Wednesday might be prepared to deal but the player will have to take a big wage cut, which makes me think “Why would he?”

Much may depend on Rhodes’ desire for regular football.

Would I have him at Norwich? Absolutely but being realistic, it could be just too much to pay for our board.
