Norwich Keeper Signs New Deal

|

Michael McGovern has signed a new contract with the club until 2021.

I have to say, this is a rather surprising turn of events but it’s not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.

The former Northern Ireland number one came to the club in the summer of 2016, having been brought to Carrow Road by then manager, Alex Neil.

The two men had known each other from their time together at Hamilton Academical and he was fresh from some superb performances for his country in Euro 2016, particularly in the game against Germany.

He’s vastly experienced and despite some unkind comments from a few quarters when he did play regularly in the 2016/17 season, I have always felt that he’s a decent keeper.

I had assumed that he would be let go at the end of the season, when his contract had been due to expire and a new keeper would be brought in to challenge Tim Krul for the number one shirt. This announcement from the club however, makes me think that Krul will remain the main man for Norwich next season and that McGovern will remain his understudy.
