Norwich Sign Everton Midfielder

|

Norwich City have announced the signing of England U21 midfielder, Kieran Dowell from Everton on a permanent three year deal for the usual undisclosed fee.

Dowell is 22-years-old and has come through the Everton academy, making his first appearance back in 2014 in the UEFA Europa League. The availability of game time became an issue at Goodison Park though and he has spent time out on-loan at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby County and most recently at Wigan, who he joined last January. There he scored  5 goals in 12 appearances, including a hat-trick in the 8-0 thrashing of Hull City.

Dowell has represented England at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels and he is clearly a player on the up. He is 6’ tall and, wait for it, an attacking midfielder, a position that the club have struggled with last season. There will, of course, be those that wonder if this signing is as a replacement for either Todd Cantwell  or Emi Buendia, but despite there being the usual speculation around those players, there’s nothing new that I’ve seen this week. Moritz Leitner seems certain to be moving on, so this, while not like for like, could be partly in line with Leitner being likely to leave too.

He looks to be a very good signing with loads of experience of the Championship.

Welcome to Norwich, Kieron!
