Norwich To Sign German Defender

|

Norwich City will reportedly sign German defender, Philip Heise today according to Build.de.

The 27-year-old currently plays for Dynamo Dresden and is a teammate of Marcel Franke, a Canary on a season-long loan there.

Heise is a specialist left back who has also played at left midfield a few times this season. He has apparently often spoken about his dream being to play in England and Wolves were linked to him last summer.

Philip has made 16 appearances for Dresden this season, scoring one goal but he is out of contract in the summer. This report from Bild suggests that there have been tensions between the player and coach, Maik Walpurgis and that a move is the best solution for all parties.

A “lower six digit fee” is mentioned. The probable sale of Ivo Pinto, which could go through today as well, means that City are short of left-sided defenders, something that the recent injury to Jamal Lewis showed.

With James Husband bombed out to Fleetwood, this deal, assuming it happens, will see more defensive strength in depth on the left. He’s not “homegrown” though and as we have the bare minimum of homegrown players in the squad at the moment, that could also be something that gets looked at today.
